It is their attempt at “cultural imperialism” imo, one by solidifying their spiritual roots within the country by (partially) moderinizing them (see the story around Xu Xiaodong) and two by trying to have manhuas replace or at least overtake mangas on the worldwide comic market.

Exactly. It was a whole new world with it’s own culture and stuff. That system has huge potential but unfortunately so many authors write cliche stuff.
